Plant Diseases and Pests

AREA's research team is working to strengthen the capacity of the public and private sector to perform disease diagnosis for farmers and formulate recommendations to reduce losses caused by plant pathogens in Haiti.

Plant Pathology Program

We are surveying plant diseases on major crops and helping to creating a more functional plant diagnostic network in the Feed the Future West Corridor. AREA is also trying to domesticate the local mushroom Djon Djon to create a new value chain for farmers.

Haitian labs receive equipment, training to fight diseases and pests in crops

We provided modern laboratory equipment and training at two of Haiti’s chief plant pathology clinics: the Rural Sustainable Development Center (CRDD) at Bas-Boën in Croix-des-Bouquets and the Haitian government’s plant pathology lab.
